Why participate?

Learn to read and analyze a patent, and conduct searches as part of competitive intelligence, prior art analysis, or freedom-to-operate studies.

Training Context:

The patent is a key strategic tool in the management of innovative projects and companies. Being able to read a patent, understand its scope, and perform technological or competitive watch are essential steps in assessing a project’s freedom to operate.
This training offers a hands-on day to learn how to decipher a patent and use open-access patent databases.

Learning objectives

  • Identify what is protected by a patent application or granted patent, and understand the geographical scope of protection.
  • Analyze a patent to extract relevant information.
  • Interpret patent statuses (granted, revoked, pending, refused) and know where to find this information.
  • Use open-access tools to perform prior art searches.
  • Understand patentability criteria specific to biopharmaceuticals.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge in biology/biotechnology or prior completion of the “Fundamentals in Biology and Biotechnology” training is recommended.

How to access and deadlines

Registering online or by e-mail is a pre-registration. We will process your request within one week:

  • Contact by e-mail or telephone
  • Sending of administrative and educational documents: training agreement, training programme and positioning questionnaire.

Signing the training agreement commits the company or individual to the training course. Cancellation conditions are specified in the training agreement.

When no session date is specified, pre-registration allows us to note your interest in a programme, and we will keep you informed as soon as a new session is organised.
