Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a virus that causes respiratory infections affecting mainly young children, the elderly and immunocompromised individuals<\/strong>. It can cause serious infections of the upper and lower respiratory tracts.<\/p>

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remains a major public health issue<\/strong> worldwide. According to UNAIDS, around 39 million people<\/strong> were living with HIV in 2022, and almost 1.3 million new infections<\/strong> were recorded that year. Thanks to advances in antiretroviral (ARV) treatment, the AIDS mortality rate has fallen sharply, from 1.7 million in 2004 to around 630,000 in 2022. However, access to treatment remains uneven across the world, with significant disparities in sub-Saharan Africa, where the majority of cases are concentrated.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Gene therapy<\/u><\/strong><\/a> is also a promising avenue, with strategies aimed at modifying the genome of immune cells to make them resistant to infection. Clinical trials are exploring the use of CRISPR-Cas9<\/u><\/strong><\/a> technology to eliminate HIV from infected cells.<\/p>

Finally, therapeutic vaccines<\/strong>, which aim to stimulate the immune system to better control the virus, are also being developed. Although preliminary results are encouraging, their effectiveness has yet to be confirmed on a larger scale. At the same time, efforts are also being made to develop prophylactic vaccines<\/strong> to prevent HIV infection. Several candidates are in clinical trials, including those using messenger RNA technology, already proven in the fight against COVID-19. However, because of the genetic variability of the virus and its ability to evade the immune system, this research still faces major challenges.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
