In France, major efforts are being made, notably through the France 2030 plan, to ensure pharmaceutical sovereignty and meet future medical needs. This article explores the challenges and opportunities presented by biomanufacturing.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3d4d887 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"3d4d887\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;jet_parallax_layout_list&quot;:[]}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-552d6ed elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"552d6ed\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What is biomanufacturing?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d0d5c8f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d0d5c8f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Biomanufacturing refers to all the technical and industrial processes used for the <strong>large-scale production of complex biological molecules<\/strong>, such as therapeutic proteins, <a href=\"https:\/\/mabdesign.fr\/anticorps-monoclonaux-mabs-star-des-proteines-therapeutiques\/\">monoclonal antibodies <\/a>or viral vectors for <a href=\"https:\/\/mabdesign.fr\/medicaments-therapie-innovante\/\">gene and cell therapy.<\/a> Unlike traditional chemical drugs, <a href=\"https:\/\/mabdesign.fr\/histoire-des-biomedicaments\/\">biomedicines<\/a> are <strong>produced from living systems <\/strong>such as mammalian cells, bacteria or yeast, generally genetically modified cells, grown in bioreactors under strictly controlled conditions. <\/p>\n<p>This approach makes it possible to produce specific, effective treatments for a wide range of diseases, particularly in <a href=\"https:\/\/mabdesign.fr\/le-marche-de-limmuno-oncologie\/\">oncology,<\/a> immunology and rare diseases. Biopharmaceuticals now account for a growing proportion of therapeutic innovations, with around 50% of clinical trials currently underway. However, biomanufacturing presents <strong>unique challenges<\/strong> in terms of <strong>complexity, cost and regulation.<\/strong> The often lengthy processes require rigorous control of numerous parameters to guarantee the quality and safety of the final product. This stage often involves advanced molecular biology, protein engineering and bioinformatics techniques. Once the molecule has been designed, it is necessary to <strong>develop a cell line capable of producing it efficiently<\/strong>. These methods are used to verify the identity, purity and biological activity of the product. The techniques used include high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), mass spectrometry, capillary electrophoresis and various immunological methods. Digital twins\u2019 are detailed virtual representations of production systems that can be used to <strong>predict and optimise bioreactor performance<\/strong>. These tools help to reduce development time and costs by enabling different culture conditions and production strategies to be explored virtually. The concept of <strong>Quality by Design (QbD)<\/strong> is increasingly being adopted in the biopharmaceutical industry. This approach aims to integrate quality right from the product and process design stage, by identifying critical quality attributes and controlling critical process parameters.
